In a recent paper entitled “Simulation optimization of PSAthreshold based prostate cancer screening policies” [2], we presented a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening policy designed by a heuristic simulation-optimization procedure based on a genetic algorithm (GA). A key part of this procedure involved simulating the natural history of prostate cancer. Because we examined PSA-threshold based screening, our model simulated PSA levels.
